"The data subject (customer) shall have the right to obtain from the controller the erasure of personal data concerning him or her without undue delay and the controller shall have the obligation to erase personal data without undue delay."
- Art. 17 GDPR; Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’)
When a customer requests for their data to be removed from a service, platform, database etc. GDPR refers to this as a “right to be forgotten” request. When this request occurs, some of that data may be held in MOBI.
Remember
You will have to ensure you fulfil the same request with all systems your business uses (e.g. POS, sales, payment gateway, marketing, etc.)
As a business owner, you have to vigilant to fulfil this request & we here at MOBI are here to help you through this process. Here a few things you can check, prior to coming to us:
- Confirm the customer's request - you need to be sure that the customer is who they say they are & that they do want this request fulfilled
- Ask the customer to respond - ask them to reply to your confirmation via the email address or phone number that you the business, should have on file. (Alternatively your business may have a more robust process to confirm customer requests.)
- Pass the request onto MOBI - once your customer has confirmed, please contact our Support team with details about the customer and request that they would like their information deleted. We will CC in the customer to the communication, so that the process is 100% transparent.
Once it's lodged with our Support team & completed, we will follow up to ensure the customer is happy.
